Dewey Herbert Perkins Jr. died at Sutter Davis Hospital on Wednesday, March 10 following a severe illness. He was a loving and adored brother, husband, father and grandfather.
Dewey was born on June 28, 1940 in Black Mountain, North Carolina as he was the second eldest of four siblings, Vera, Charles, Shearron, and himself, born to Sara Irene Perkins and Dewey Herbert Perkins Sr. He completed 3 years of high school, and after high school, Dewey attended college and joined the Army Service Branch in 1958 as a Truck Driver and eventually became a Class Gunner and Marksman. He was honorably discharged in 1963. He lived in Cleveland, Ohio where he had five children, Darryl, Dewey III, Lisa, Sonia, and Michael. He moved to California in where he had five children, Kenyatta, Maya, Kenya, Konata, and Kowonda, and throughout his life had a child in Germany and a child in Virginia. He was the grandfather of Lisa, Cortez, Jessica, Nick, Jehajahvon, Jermaine, Carlos, Sedric, Laquita, Demetrius, Terry, Joyce, Ashley, Dominique, LaShauna, Asha, Komarai, Donnie, Ezekiel, and Makayla. He was a member of the Church of Christ in San Francisco and in Davis, and ministered at many others throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. He moved to Davis in 2006 where his eldest son in California, Kenyatta, and his youngest daughter, Kowonda cared for him in his last years.
Dewey's children have honored his wishes and in this life and will continue to do so in the future. Dewey was loved by his family, his many friends and church members and will be missed.
